چکیده

After administration of sodium fl —14C]acetate to rhizome or root cuttings of Convallaria maja lis L. two of the main cardiac glycosides were isolated and examined for incorporated radioactivity. With a detection limit of 0.0003% of incorporated label it can be assumed, that the subterranean organs o f C. majalis are not capable of cardenolide biogenesis de novo. Interconversions on the cardenolide level do not take place, too, as was proved by application o f [U —14C]convallatoxol and examination of convallatoxin, the main m etabolite in leaves. Therefore the cardenolide content of the subterranean parts of C. majalis (0.2% ) must have its origin in the leaves, from where the cardiac glycosides are translocated to rhizomes and roots, which only fulfil a storage function in this respect.

Determination of progesterone in vegetative organs and cell organelles of Convallaria majalis L. by radioimmunoassay.

Progesterone was extracted from leaves and subterranean parts of Convallaria majalis L. and quantified by radioimmunoassay. During the stage of flowering the content of progesterone in rhizomes was by a factor of four higher than in leaves and by a factor of ten higher than in roots, whereas five weeks later the level of progesterone was unchanged in rhizomes and roots but was elevated in the l...

Provenancing Flower Bulbs by Analytical Fingerprinting: Convallaria Majalis

The origin of agricultural products is gaining in appreciation while often hard to determine for various reasons. Geographical origin may be resolved using a combination of chemical and physical analytical technologies. In the present case of Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majalis) rhizomes, we investigated an exploratory set of material from The Netherlands, three other European (EU) countrie...

Pergularia tomentosa, from Traditional Uses to Ecology and Phytochemistry

Background: Pergularia tomentosa L. has several traditional uses and biological activities which need to be more investigated. Objective: In this study, some ecological and phytochemical properties of Pergularia tomentosa were assessed. The flavonoids and cardenolides in the aqueous extract of leaves were identified with LCMS techniques. Methods: Some quantity characteristics of P. tomentosa...

Identification of mycorrhizal fungi from single pelotons of Dactylorhiza majalis (Orchidaceae) using single-strand conformation polymorphism and mitochondrial ribosomal large subunit DNA sequences.

The mitochondrial ribosomal large subunit (Ls) DNA was used to identify the orchid mycorrhizal fungi found in roots of Dactylorhiza majalis. The gene was amplified using DNA extracted from single pelotons obtained from fresh and silica gel dried roots. Furthermore, sequencing a variety of well-characterized orchid isolates expanded the fungal database of the mitochondrial ribosomal LsDNA. Polym...
